Nowadays, we are spending more and more time at home due to COVID-19 pandemic. This has made it easier and easier for us to let work duties slip, and binge another show. If you’re anything like me, these easy tips will be a lifesaver when it comes to having a productive workspace, even at home!

Keep distractions out of sight

Cellphones are a big distraction and can keep pulling your attention away from work easily with messages and notifications. To have a productive workspace, it’s best to keep your phone on silent and away from your sight. If you’re as prone to be distracted like me, you may even want to hand it to a trusted individual so you are sure you’ll stay focused. AND, added bonus, if there is any type of emergency, that person can let you know. Keep only essentials in your work station. Distractions also include people! Make sure those around you know when you are trying to get work done so that they respect your time at your desk.

Have a dedicated and productive workspace

Having space completely dedicated to work is essential. Make sure these spaces don’t overlap with places of leisure, such as your bed or your couch. Your productive workspace should be a quiet space where you wouldn’t be easily distracted, away from kitchens and T.V.s. Your workplace should also be well-lit, preferably by natural lighting (to avoid unnecessary strain to your eyes). Of course, this space does not have to be a special desk, and it can be anywhere you feel comfortable, as long as you’re not tempted to nap or stop working.

Play some tunes

Playing some music while you work can help boost productivity and creativity. You may want to use different music in your productive workspace for different types of work. For example, if you are doing repetitive work that doesn’t require much brainstorming, feel free to play upbeat music. However, if you are doing work that requires brainstorming and creativity, it might be smarter to use relaxing, instrumental music that won’t grab your attention.

Have a snack near your productive workspace

Having some healthy snacks near your productive workspace can supercharge your productivity and help you achieve your workday goals. Donuts and chips are not great options and will likely make you feel sluggish and ready for a nap. Some healthy snack options are trail mix, granola bars, greek yogurt, berries, and dark chocolate. These snacks will keep your body busy while your mind focuses on the task at hand.

Take regular breaks

It can be hard to stay focused when you’ve been working for a long time. To counter this, take regular breaks from working. Get up and out of your workplace, take a short walk, fix yourself a drink, or do some stretches. Don’t make your breaks too long or you’ll risk losing focus. Try to have a 45/15 balance between work and breaks!

Make note of these tips and try them out next time you find yourself distracted by your phone while your work awaits. With these tips, you will surely be able to have productive workdays even at home!
